Just like what Dan Rosenthal shared here, it’s deeply ingrained into ops.

You will also be firing multiple of their AI agents, which have now created workflows to keep ops running.

What does it mean for companies?
- Teams that are "forward-deployed" should charge more
- Services that are human-enabled and AI-powered should charge more
- Teams that are in-house for a brand should be upskilled with AI instead of being fired

What does it mean for the actual operators (not C-suite)?
- Be more valuable than an AI agent
- Provide value beyond workflows
- Provide output instead of merely input (tokens, context, strat)

How to be more valuable than AI?
Answer: Spin the plates better.

As in:
- strategic context switching power across domains and tasks
- ability to navigate tasks that are ambiguous and unstructured
- make judgment calls even when context is incomplete
- make your boss enjoy working with you

If you're not that, time to go into farming.

But what's the benefit of retaining your AI-native team or partner? Beyond what I mentioned above, AI-powered teams that are rooted in your infra and context can now justify premium switching costs.

Companies whose founder-operators know this will see why they still want humans and know that they can’t just replace their whole team with AI agents. But the operators do really have to step up their game.

I’m writing this from inside the supply chain.

I’ve been studying AI ethics at LSE this month, working through market failures, monopolistic concentration, and the gap between countries that get to write the rules and countries that absorb them. Three weeks into the coursework, I tried to use Claude Design after it was announced to be on research preview from Manila on a paid Max subscription, and today the connection failed at the ISP level. I opened my VPN, then my CLI, then went back to studying the failure mode I had just experienced firsthand.

The block

From my PLDT and Globe residential connections, requests to Anthropic’s endpoints fail unless I route through a VPN, while the same account works from a VPN endpoint in a supported country. Equal opportunity much?

Filipino developers are sharing the same workaround on Reddit. Whatever enforces the block sits below account level and keys off geography, not whether I’m a paying user. My paid Max subscription is invisible to it because the rule targets routes, and account status falls outside its scope.

Outages happen when systems fail. What I’m describing is the system performing exactly as configured by someone who decided my country sits outside the supported list.

When was the last time your AI tools required a VPN to reach from your own country? When was the last time you paid for a tier that your geography invalidated?

The training data

Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google trained on the global internet, which is the whole pitch. They built models that understand the world because they read the world, and that reading included content produced by Filipino journalists, designers, developers, marketers, bloggers, forum posters, and small business owners, with all of those contributors absent from the compensation list, the credit list, and the consent list.

Read this as supply chain analysis. Filipino digital labor sits in the model weights, while the same digital labor force needs a VPN to query the model that contains it.

If you’re inside an LLM company reading this, I have three questions for you. What percentage of your training corpus came from regions where your product now requires a VPN to access? Has anyone on your team calculated that ratio? Would you publish it if they had?

The access ladder

Google has sharply tightened the free API experimentation tier in AI Studio, pushing Pro models behind paid plans and shrinking the free quota to the point where serious prototyping now costs money.

Google for Startups cloud credits still exist, technically, with an application process that requires investor documentation, accelerator affiliation, and ecosystem proximity calibrated for San Francisco.

I have pitched DashoContent at AppWorks Demo Day in Taipei, at e27 Echelon in Singapore, at She Loves Tech where we placed third in the Philippines, at the Training of Trainers in Seoul. Sixteen years of building from the Philippines put me in those rooms. The credits program criteria still place me outside the eligibility window.

How many Filipino founders have you seen at YC demo day? At Sequoia’s portfolio events? Now compare that to how much of the training data came from Asia. The asymmetry has structure. The access ladder reflects the funding ladder, the funding ladder reflects the geography ladder, and all three ladders point the same direction.

Who is the gatekeeper deciding which markets earn free tiers? When that decision gets made, is anyone in the room from the markets being decided about?

What it actually costs

I am building DashoContent and Third Team Ventures right now, running on Anthropic, OpenAI, GCP, AWS, Fly.io and more. Every line item is denominated in USD. When the peso slips against the dollar, I lose margin the same week.

When OpenAI throttled our account during the dasho.ai launch, an AI brand voice analyzer I had built and shipped on a Wednesday after weeks of promotion, I sat watching my own product flicker offline within an hour while waiting for the credit limit to reset. When Google pulled the free experimentation tier, three n8n prototypes I had running for clients stopped being free overnight. The notice for every one of those decisions was calibrated for English-speaking enterprise markets, which puts my market outside the announcement audience by default.

Who absorbs the cost when the platform changes its pricing or access policy? The cost lands on the founders downstream of the decision, every time.

The ethical frame

Thomas Ferretti, the LSE professor teaching my course, puts it cleanly. Profit-seeking is only ethically justified insofar as it contributes to economic efficiency, and the moment it exploits market failures, restricts access, externalises costs, or compounds monopoly advantage, it loses that justification.

By that standard, blocking AI tool access in developing markets while continuing to train on globally produced content fails the test. It fails under the same ethical framework these companies cite when they publish their responsible AI principles, sign their AI safety pledges, and host their AI for Good summits.

Why does the responsible AI conversation skip responsible distribution every time? Why is “AI for humanity” the marketing line and “AI for paying markets we already understand” the operating policy?

The question I am leaving here

I use the AI tool stack I have daily because the market currently offers no comparable alternative for what I’m building, and that dependence is the structural condition under which I work. It’s worth saying plainly that I am writing about this with my account active and my subscription paid.

The founders most exposed to this condition are building real products for real local problems with real local users, in markets that the platform owners have classified as low priority, hard to underwrite, or blocked outright. The AI access conversation tracks who gets displaced by automation. It mostly skips who gets to build, in which countries, under what cost structure, with which tools, on whose terms.

Here are the questions I want answered.

• If you’re building from the Global South, what does your stack actually cost you in workarounds? In dollars? In hours per week of friction the announcements skip?

• If you’re inside Anthropic, Google, or OpenAI reading this, would you ship a product knowing the population you trained on requires a circumvention tool to reach it from their own country? Has that conversation happened in your org? Did anyone block ship on it?

• If you’re a policymaker in any ASEAN country, are you negotiating access terms with the platforms, or assuming the market will sort it out? Has anyone modelled what it costs your founder ecosystem when the market fails to sort it out?

What I have is a Substack, a VPN, and sixteen years of building from a country the platforms I depend on treat as out of scope.

I am asking these questions every time I open the VPN or asked to upgrade again from my current plans.

The number

16.3% of the world’s population used generative AI tools during the second half of 2025.

That is the figure from the Microsoft AI Economy Institute’s Global AI Adoption report, published January 8, 2026. It is the most comprehensive population-weighted measurement available. 147 countries. Aggregated telemetry adjusted for device market share, internet penetration, and country population.

16.3%.

That means 83.7% of the world’s population, roughly 6.9 billion people out of 8.28 billion, has never actively used ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Midjourney, Copilot, or any generative AI tool. For learning. For work. For anything.

One in six people on Earth has touched this technology. Five in six have not.

ChatGPT alone hit 900 million weekly active users as of February 2026. That sounds massive. It is still a fraction of the global population. The Global North sits at 24.7% adoption. The Global South at 14.1%. The gap is widening. The UAE leads globally at 64%. The United States ranks 24th at 28.3%. An estimated 2.2 billion people are still completely offline.

There is a naturally occurring control group of billions of human beings whose taste, judgment, and creative instincts remain untouched by AI-generated content.

It exists right now. It will not exist forever.

The contamination problem

Here is the situation as I see it.

Almost every knowledge worker under 50 in the Global North has now interacted with generative AI in some meaningful way. They have used it to write, to edit, to brainstorm, to code, to research. That exposure changes how they evaluate quality. It changes what they expect. It changes what they forgive.

Product teams feel this already. When you run A/B tests or user interviews, the feedback you get is increasingly filtered through AI-adjusted expectations. People know what polished AI output looks like. They tolerate mediocrity that would have been unacceptable three years ago. They confuse “clean” with “good.”

Synthetic users and AI-generated personas do not solve this. They echo our current assumptions back at us. They are mirrors.

The only way to get a genuinely unfiltered human reaction is from someone who has never been exposed to AI output. And inside the Global North tech-connected knowledge economy, that population is almost gone. Globally, it is still 6.9 billion people. The disconnect between those two facts is the entire point of this piece.

The seed bank analogy

I think about this the way I think about biodiversity.

We maintain seed banks around the world. The logic is simple. If a disease wipes out a crop variety in the field, we need uncontaminated genetic material to start over. The preserved seeds are the control. The field is the experiment.

We are running the largest experiment in cognitive history. AI is reshaping how billions of people think, write, evaluate, and create. And we have no deliberate control group. We have a massive accidental one — 6.9 billion people — but nobody is preserving it. Nobody is studying it. Nobody is using it as a baseline.

The Microsoft data makes the urgency concrete. Adoption grew 1.2 percentage points in six months. The rate is accelerating in every region. The 83.7% will be 80% by next year, then 70%, then the window closes. The accidental control group dissolves into ambient AI exposure: search engines, social media algorithms, AI-embedded keyboards. You do not need to open ChatGPT to have your cognitive environment shaped by generative AI.

What a real control group would do

I am talking about something deliberate, voluntary, and structured. A cohort of people, across demographics, who agree to opt out of AI tools entirely for a defined period. Five years. Ten years. Compensated. Monitored. Consenting adults who understand what they are giving up and why it matters.

Amish communities and off-grid villages are self-selected populations with dozens of confounding variables. Interesting anthropologically. Useless for product research.

Here is what a structured cohort could do.

Product testing. Route a portion of your user research through people who have never seen AI-generated interfaces, copy, or interactions. Their confusion reveals your real UX problems. Their delight reveals your real wins. No AI-adjusted expectations.

Homogenization detection. AI smooths edges. It optimizes for the average. It erases quirks. An uncontaminated cohort would function as an early warning system. When they say “this all feels the same,” that is a signal worth millions in market positioning.

Taste calibration. In content, in design, in code, in music. We need a reference population whose aesthetic preferences have not been reshaped by AI-generated content. Their reactions tell us what is actually better versus what is just shinier.

Scientific measurement. We are three years into the generative AI era and we still cannot answer basic questions. Has AI made people more creative or less? Has it improved writing quality or flattened it? Has it accelerated learning or created dependency? Without a control group, these questions are unanswerable.

The closest thing we have

Anthropic ran a randomized controlled trial with junior software engineers. AI-assisted versus non-assisted, working with unfamiliar codebases. The AI-assisted group was actually slower.

That study is interesting. It is also short-term, narrow in scope, and focused on task performance. It tells us nothing about long-term changes in judgment, taste, or creative instinct.

Companies are moving the other direction entirely. They are replacing human feedback with synthetic users because it is faster and cheaper. I understand the economics. I also understand that this creates a closed loop where AI validates its own output.

That is an echo chamber with a budget.

Why this is hard

I am not naive about the obstacles.

Ethics. Access to tools is increasingly seen as a right. Asking someone to voluntarily forgo AI for a decade raises real questions about informed consent and opportunity cost.

Feasibility. AI is embedded in search engines, email clients, phone keyboards, social media algorithms. True isolation is nearly impossible in 2026.

Cost. Compensating a large enough cohort for a meaningful period is expensive.

Self-selection bias. People who volunteer to avoid AI may already be predisposed to distrust technology. That skews the data.

All of these are real. None of them are disqualifying. Partial cohorts still produce directional signal. Shorter commitments still generate useful baselines. Even a few hundred genuine AI-naive participants would be more valuable than thousands of synthetic users.

And the 6.9 billion people who have never used AI tools right now? They exist in the Global South, in rural communities, in populations with limited internet access. They are real people living real lives. The question is whether anyone will study them as a baseline before that window closes — with their full consent, with their fair compensation, with their agency intact.

The math of the closing window

H1 2025: 15.1% global adoption. H2 2025: 16.3%. A 1.2 percentage point jump in six months. The rate in the Global North is accelerating faster — 1.8 points in the same period.

DeepSeek, the open-source AI platform, is surging across Africa and the Global South. It removed cost barriers entirely. Free access. Open license. Adoption in parts of Africa is estimated at 2 to 4 times higher than in other previously low-adoption regions.

The next billion AI users will not come from San Francisco or London. They will come from the populations that currently form the accidental control group. Every new user is one fewer uncontaminated baseline.

This is a problem that gets impossible to solve later.

Where this goes by 2036

The technology S-curve for generative AI is steeper than the internet or smartphones at the same stage. Here is what the data trajectory suggests over the next decade.

Adoption saturates. If we extrapolate from the current diffusion rate, adjusted for accelerating drivers like DeepSeek, multilingual models, and AI embedded into messaging apps and banking platforms, global penetration reaches 70-85% by 2036. Near-saturation in the Global North at 90%+. The Global South at 60-75%. The last true AI-naive cohort shrinks to under 10-15% of humanity — mostly offline and remote populations.

The market scales. The generative AI market was valued at roughly $38 billion in 2025. Precedence Research projects it reaching $1.2 trillion by 2035, at a compound annual growth rate of 37%. McKinsey estimates generative AI could add $2.6 to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy across 63 analyzed use cases. The Wharton Budget Model projects a 1.5% boost to global GDP by 2035, with the strongest productivity acceleration in the early 2030s.

AI becomes infrastructure. By 2028-2030, an estimated 30-50% of enterprise software will include autonomous agents. By 2036, most knowledge work involves human-agent teams. Models go multimodal by default — text, image, video, voice, code — and shrink to run locally on phones and edge devices. Generative AI stops being a category. It becomes the operating layer.

The control group disappears. This is the part that matters for this argument. Every year of the next decade reduces the pool of genuinely AI-naive humans. Passive exposure alone — through AI-generated search results, social feeds, auto-complete, and recommendation engines — contaminates even people who never open a chatbot. By 2036, the concept of “untouched human taste” becomes theoretical.

The window is 2026-2030 at most. After that, we are measuring drift without a reference point.

The question I am leaving here

I do not have a pilot program. I do not have funding for this. I have a Substack and a set of observations from running content operations in an AI-saturated environment.

Here is what I want to know.

Would you volunteer? If someone offered you fair compensation to stay AI-free for five years, would you do it? Would you give up ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, Copilot, and every AI-assisted tool in your workflow?

Or is it already too late for you?

This is pro-measurement. This is pro-knowing-what-we-are-actually-doing. I say that as someone who has built a business on AI.

If you build products, run teams, or create content for a living, this affects your work. The quality of your feedback loops depends on the quality of the humans in them.

Preserve the seed bank while there are still seeds to collect.

That’s where I froze.

Because on paper, this is the kind of post that’s supposed to end with a triumphant punchline. Look at how much I got done with AI. Look at the leverage. Look at the operational glow-up.

When Your Identity Is Your Output

Founders are professional plate-spinners. We’re conditioned to measure our worth in:

• revenue

• headcount

• number of tasks cleared

• number of hours “crushed”

So when I hand off a huge chunk of my cognitive load to AI and watch it complete in minutes what would have taken me days, there’s a quiet panic under the productivity high.

If I’m not the one doing the work, then… what am I?

There’s a growing conversation about this in the AI era: that we’ve fused self-worth with productivity so tightly that once the productivity can be automated, the self feels suddenly negotiable. Replaceable. Optional.

And when your business is your identity, that hits hard. It’s not just that tasks move faster now. It’s that the very thing you used as proof you deserve to exist in the arena — your output — is no longer uniquely yours.

What the AI Did Not Do

Here’s what those bullet points don’t show.

The AI did not:

• decide that Valentine’s weekend was worth planning for in the first place

• care about which HMO actually protects my family, not just looks good on a spreadsheet

• feel the anxiety behind the lab tests or the relief of having them analyzed before a consult

• carry a mental map of competitors because it holds a long-term vision for DashoContent

• discern which CEO thoughts matter enough to turn into briefs, and which to quietly delete

• know my personal thresholds: what I refuse to drop, what I can tolerate, what I’m optimizing for as a human being

I did that.

I’m the one who woke up with a knot in my stomach about health, about time, about missed opportunities. I’m the one who decided that buying back my hours was worth the friction of setting these systems up. I’m the one who cares about not dropping the ball for my team, my clients, my people.

The AI runs workflows. I hold the why.

Meanwhile, Humans…

So what did I mean with that trailing “Meanwhile, humans…”?

It was a mix of frustration and grief.

Frustration, because I can now see how much pain, burnout, and busywork is actually optional - and yet most people are still drowning in it. They don’t have the language, the experiments, or sometimes even the permission to offload what machines can absolutely handle.

Grief, because this shift is not just about technology. It’s about identity.

So, Do I Matter?

If my worth is tied to how many emails I clear, how many reports I prepare, how many workflows I manually grind through, then no — in that narrow frame, I will become less and less “special” over time.

But that frame is broken.

Where I still matter — where you still matter — is in the things no model wakes up wanting to do:

• to love particular people in a particular way

• to hold a specific vision for a specific business in a specific community

• to feel responsible for how your work touches real lives

• to suffer when things go wrong and to grow anyway

• to decide, consciously, what a good life looks like for you, not just a productive one

My AI assistants have become part of my team. They are powerful, obedient, and relentlessly scalable.

But the most important thing they’ve given me is not leverage.

It’s a clearer view of where I end and the machines begin — and a deep, quiet conviction that in that boundary, there is still more than enough space to matter.

Since my first post about experimenting with Clawdbot, the project has been officially renamed to Moltbot. The core proposition remains the same: a self‑hosted AI agent that lives in your messaging apps, controls your browser, reads your files, and can act on your behalf 24/7.

But after burning through around $10 in API credits in two days and spending hours debugging OAuth, VM configurations, and message queue loops, the real question isn’t whether this technology works — it’s whether MSMEs and marketing teams should attempt it themselves.

The answer, increasingly, is no.

Not because the tech isn’t powerful, but because the hidden costs — in time, security risk, and operational overhead — make DIY a trap for most businesses.

From Clawdbot to Moltbot

The rename from Clawdbot to Moltbot wasn’t just cosmetic (or just because Claude gave them a cease-and-desist).

It signals that this ecosystem is still nascent, fast‑moving, and subject to forces outside any single user’s control. If you set up “Clawdbot” last month, you’re now running “Moltbot” — and that kind of churn is typical in early‑stage open‑source AI tooling.

What Moltbot actually is:

• A self‑hosted agent framework with a control dashboard, persistent memory stored as markdown files, and connectors to messaging platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Signal)

• A way to route your preferred LLM (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, or local models via Ollama) into real actions: terminal commands, browser automation, file operations, email, calendar

• Not a consumer product — it’s infrastructure that requires configuration, maintenance, and ongoing governance

The emotional appeal is real: “I hired something.” But the operational reality is closer to: “I adopted a very capable intern with root access and a tendency toward creative interpretation.”

The Security Risks of DIY Setup

For non‑technical users and even technically‑capable founders without dedicated DevOps, self‑hosting an AI agent introduces serious security exposure.

Running Moltbot isn’t just “using a bot.” It’s wiring a highly capable system into your email, calendar, cloud drives, and messaging channels, then giving it power to browse, read, write, and sometimes send.

Top DIY Security Pitfalls

1. Credential leakage

• Copy‑pasting API keys, app passwords, and OAuth JSON into random terminals and chats

• Storing credentials in plain‑text .env files on laptops with no disk encryption or proper user separation

2. Over‑permissioned OAuth scopes

• Granting full Gmail read/write/send when the use case only needs read‑only

• Approving scopes you don’t understand, just to “make it work,” and forgetting the app stays authorized indefinitely

3. Unclear data boundaries

• Pointing the bot at your “everything” Google Drive or company email without deciding what’s in‑bounds (client contracts, HR records, personal finance)

• Letting the same agent handle both your personal and company accounts

4. Exposed local machines

• Running the gateway on a cloud VM that isn’t locked down, or on a home laptop shared with family

• Leaving the browser relay on and unlocked while you’re away from the device

5. Prompt‑injection via input channels

• Remember: once the agent can act, every input (email, WhatsApp message, document) is effectively an instruction channel

• A crafted email that “looks like you” can get the agent to do things you didn’t intend

For MSMEs without security expertise, these aren’t “nice to haves” — they’re the minimum bar for not creating a liability.

The Real Costs of Running Moltbot

Let’s talk numbers.

I’ll focus on four buckets:

1. LLM API Costs

Moltbot routes your requests to an LLM provider. Common options today:

Claude API (Anthropic) – typical 2026 pricing

• Claude 4.5 Haiku

  • Input: around $1.00 per 1M tokens

  • Output: around $5.00 per 1M tokens

  • Best for: fast, cheap, high‑volume tasks

• Claude 4.5 Sonnet

  • Input: around $3.00 per 1M tokens

  • Output: around $15.00 per 1M tokens

  • Best for: balanced performance, agent use

• Claude 4.5 Opus

  • Input: around $5.00 per 1M tokens

  • Output: around $25.00 per 1M tokens

  • Best for: complex reasoning, heavy decision‑making

In my own two‑day experiment (calendar + email + hotel research + debugging), I burned roughly $10 in Claude credits. Extrapolated:

• Light but daily use: $30–$50/month

• Consistent agent workflows: $100–$200/month

• Heavy always‑on agent: $300–$500/month

You can bring this down using smaller models or local models, but then you trade off quality and reliability.

OpenAI API – ballpark 2026 numbers

• GPT‑4o Mini

  • Very cheap: well under $1 per 1M tokens combined input/output

  • Good for utility tasks and small agents

• GPT‑4o / GPT‑4 Turbo / GPT‑5

  • Mid‑tier models in the $2–10 per 1M input tokens range and $10–30 per 1M output tokens

  • Premium reasoning models (like o1) are significantly higher

Google Gemini API – ballpark 2026 numbers

• Flash / Flash‑Lite: cents per 1M tokens (very cheap, good for bulk tasks)

• Pro tiers: similar to GPT‑4o / Claude Sonnet, around $1–$2 input and $10–$12 output per 1M tokens

The takeaway: the LLM itself is not free, but with good prompt and workflow design it becomes predictable.

2. Supporting APIs (Search, etc.)

Moltbot often uses a search API to ground answers.

Brave Search API example

• Free tier: a small number of queries/month

• Paid tiers: roughly $5–$10 per 1,000 search requests, depending on the plan

For a typical MSME agent:

• Light search use: $5–$20/month

• Heavy agent search: $50–$100/month

3. Cloud Hosting

You can run Moltbot on a local machine, but if you want it available 24/7 you’ll likely use a virtual machine (VM).

Google Cloud / AWS ballpark

• Small VM (2 vCPUs, 4–8 GB RAM): $15–$70/month

• Mid VM (4 vCPUs, 16 GB RAM): $80–$150/month

For most MSMEs:

• A small VM is enough → budget $20–$70/month just for hosting

4. Your Time (The Biggest Cost)

The part no one prices in: you.

Typical time sinks:

• Initial setup (VM, Moltbot, WhatsApp/Telegram, SSL, DNS): 4–8 hours

• OAuth for Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive): 2–4 hours per integration

• Debugging gateway issues, browser relay glitches, message echo loops: 1–3 hours/week

• Prompt and workflow design: 2–5 hours/month

• Security tightening, backups, upgrades: 2–4 hours/quarter

Even if you value your time at just ₱1,500/hour (~$27/hour), ten hours per month in “AI ops tinkering” is $270/month in opportunity cost — on top of your API and hosting bills.

DIY Cost Summary

If we combine all of that, a realistic DIY Moltbot monthly cost looks like:

• Light use (side experiment)

  • LLM: $30–$50

  • Search/API: $5–$10

  • Hosting: $15–$30

The old Super Club ad feels wonderfully of its time: big, confident typography, lots of body copy, and a clear “product equals privilege” narrative. The visual language leans on classic cues of luxury and distance from the crowded economy cabin.

And then here is a 1991 ad.

The British Airways Club now feels like a flexible platform BA can hang different cabins and experiences on, without rebuilding the brand architecture every time they update a seat.

It’s a neat reminder that naming, visual identity, and product innovation are at their best when they’re evolving together, not in silos.

Reading old emails in prep for a call got me thinking: I want to quantify all the introductions I’ve made and received over the past 15 years building Third Team Media and DashoContent. How many has it been? 100s? 1000s? I’m tracking it this quarter till next year: simple tally, time-to-first-outcome, and whether warm intros actually convert faster. If they do, we double down.

Because heck, it’s been quite a long journey…

Met people, served them, provided value, moved on, befriended them, forgotten by them, remembered by them, served again and again.

One hiccup along the way is nothing. Two is a pinch. Three is a regular day. I’ve seen it all, and yet I’m still here trying to be the “nice” person I can be. But in entrepreneurship, “nice” will get you nowhere… I mean, you can see that. And you may have experienced that as well.

Aside from nice: emotional? Am I emotional? Hell yeah. I run my business with heart. Am I quantified in my decisions? Of course, that too. I ain’t here standing without the data analysis. So I don’t get why people confuse my passion with mere emotions. I stop when the numbers tell me to.

Feel it fast, test it fast. Then log the decision and move.

But all in the service of what? For the legacy? Probably. For the money? Close enough, coz it funds it all. For the mission? Hell yeah. The people and brands that DO GOOD deserve to be heard and have their stories told in ways that only technology can.

So yeah, I’m not in favor of people who see valor in the “unkind truth” when you can choose to be kind. Even if you are in entrepreneurship, mentoring, or business, you can be both kind and ambitious. That in itself means living multiple lives.

And listening to that one Billions episode today, when Taylor asked “what’s the point,” all the ghosts of Fleire’s past nodded with me when Bobby Axelrod said, “You get one life, so do it all.”

Do it all indeed. But do it with receipts.

Then Pastus, the wise old bird, spoke: “Let’s send out scouts in all directions and try to find a young owl abandoned somewhere, or perhaps an egg. A baby crow would also do, or a very young weasel. It might be the greatest thing that’s ever happened to us, at least since the opening of the ‘unlimited grain pavilion’ in the backyard.”

The crowd was excited, and sparrows everywhere began to sing at the top of their lungs.

Only Scronkfinkle, a one-eyed sparrow with an inquisitive temperament, was not convinced of the wisdom of the undertaking. He said, "That will surely be our downfall. Shouldn't we first think about the task of taming and controlling the owl, before bringing such a creature among us?"

Pastus replied, "Taming an owl seems a very difficult task. It will be hard enough to find an owl's egg.

So let's start with that. When we succeed in raising an owl, we'll start thinking about that other task."

"There's a flaw in the plan!" chirped Scronkfinkle; but his protests were in vain, for the crowd had already taken flight to begin executing Pastus's plan. Only two or three sparrows remained behind. Together, they began to try to figure out how an owl could be tamed and controlled. They soon realized that Pastus was right: it was an extremely difficult challenge, especially since they lacked a real owl to practice on.

Nevertheless, they continued to do their best, constantly fearing that the crowd would return with an owl's egg before they found a solution to the problem of how to control such a creature. How the story ends is unknown.

This group will function as an AI think tank, providing critical insights into the country's AI readiness and adoption and guiding the government in formulating AI-related policies.

The Dangerous Gap Between Policy and Execution

Photos from the NIC meeting confirm what many in tech already know: there's a dangerous gap between those making AI policy and those building AI products in the Philippines.

Where are the founders who've shipped? The engineers who've written actual code? The young innovators who use AI daily?

We don't just need another committee to "think" about AI. We need builders with practical experience to shape policy. Theory disconnected from practice produces regulations that inhibit rather than enable innovation.

The Philippines risks falling behind while decision makers debate theoretical frameworks instead of supporting the entrepreneurs actually building our AI future.

Real innovation happens on keyboards, not in boardrooms.

Philippines Needs AI Builders, Not Just Thinkers

Ugh, why can't the Philippines 🇵🇭 get this right?!

Instead of wasting time on another "think tank" for AI, we NEED to build real AI labs like the rest of the world! The U.S. has NAIRR, handing out compute power to actual innovators. China's got Baidu and Tencent labs pumping out breakthroughs. South Korea's AI hubs are killing it!

These countries are in the game, solving real problems—talent, compute, speed—while we're stuck "thinking"?! By the time this "think tank" is done and setup, the world has already moved on from MCPs, vibe coding, and AI agents. WE ARE LAGGING 10 YEARS BEHIND. WHY ADD ANOTHER LAYER OF THINKING WHEN WE NEED EXECUTING??

The hard truth is that committees don't create innovation—builders do. While our government forms committees to study AI, other nations are providing three crucial resources to their technologists:

1. Compute power

2. Funding for experimentation

3. Regulatory frameworks that enable rather than obstruct

We don't need more reports explaining what AI is. We need infrastructure that lets Filipino developers actually build with it.

The Reality of Philippine AI Governance: Perspectives from Insiders

The announcement of yet another AI think tank has sparked debate among those familiar with the Philippine government's history of technology initiatives. While some see it as a necessary step toward policy coordination, others question whether it will lead to meaningful action or simply produce another shelved document.

Those with insider knowledge of government operations offer particularly revealing perspectives:

"Historically, our government agencies use Think Tanks to produce Roadmaps. And historically, none of the Roadmaps were effectively pursued. Think of the Automotive Roadmaps and the Semicon Roadmaps and more recently the AI Roadmap (YES!!! THERE IS AN EXISTING AI ROADMAP made by the DTI of Duterte at the tailend of its administration, revised/renewed during the early BBM admin, but seemingly all but forgotten.)" - Pert Cabataña

This observation raises the uncomfortable question of whether this new initiative will face the same fate as previous technology roadmaps. Interestingly, those familiar with the National Innovation Council's structure offer a more nuanced take on its role:

"NIC is a council who can't do much to execute, it's an approving council. With a think tank, it can suggest what policies to create then approve. It's a bureaucratic thing. I was part of when the NIC was established and wrote several parts of founding policies." - Kevin San Miguel Cuevas

"IMO this is a way to harmonize AI policies. Ang dami kasi na ginawa ng mga agencies recently (DepEd, DTI, DOST, DICT, etc), NIC is mandated to be the coordinating body of this." - Kevin San Miguel Cuevas

A director from DICT offers a more pragmatic explanation for this approach:

"To answer your question...its because before anything govt does in PH (and anywhere else in the world) there has to be an underlying policy. The NAIRR is also something that came out of a policy document..what is important is probably to adopt similar to PH." - Rik Amores

2. Government Support: Vietnam ranks 39th globally in AI readiness and has implemented proactive strategies such as establishing national data centers, training AI engineers, and creating a regulatory sandbox for AI development25.

3. Strategic Partnerships: Collaborations with major tech companies like NVIDIA and Meta further enhance Vietnam's capabilities in AI research and infrastructure development 5 9.

4. Focus on Generative AI: Vietnam ranks second in ASEAN for generative AI dynamism, with plans to increase its share of AI startups from 27% to 35% by 2030 2.

Thailand's AI Innovation

1. AI Action Plan: Thailand’s National AI Action Plan (2022–2030) focuses on reforming regulations, strengthening infrastructure, enhancing workforce skills, and fostering public-private partnerships through initiatives like AI Sandboxes6.

Vietnam's focused on execution: creating $3.4B in AI market value by 2030, building national compute infrastructure, launching regulatory sandboxes, and training engineers. They're partnering with NVIDIA and Meta while ranking second in ASEAN for generative AI dynamism.

Thailand's systematic: their National AI Action Plan spans regulation reform through 2030, focuses on practical sector-specific implementations (tourism, healthcare, energy), and positions them fourth regionally for startups. Their Supported AI Law directly addresses regulatory barriers.

Philippines talks while others build: despite projected market growth to $3.5B by 2030 and a recent 30% rise in AI patent applications, we're still establishing think tanks and discussing roadmaps – many of which historically remain unimplemented.

The pattern is clear: Vietnam and Thailand execute while Philippines deliberates. They're building infrastructure and forming industry partnerships while we're still deciding what to do.

In technology, speed determines winners. Markets don't wait for perfect policy frameworks.

The Philippine AI Gap: Why We're Falling Behind

The Philippines faces a brutal economic reality: we're losing the regional AI race, and the costs are mounting daily.

While we debate the creation of another think tank, our economy bleeds value. The global AI market will hit $1.3 trillion by 2030. Countries with functioning AI ecosystems are seeing 25-40% productivity jumps across sectors. Our hesitation could cost us $120 billion in GDP.

Our vulnerability is uniquely severe. The $30 billion BPO industry employing 1.5 million Filipinos has nearly half its tasks vulnerable to automation. Only 23% of our workers have the digital skills needed for AI-augmented roles. Meanwhile, our best tech talent flees to countries actually building something.

The regional gap widens daily. Despite skepticism about our neighbors:

• Vietnam: $150M in AI training centers + Google/NVIDIA partnerships

• Thailand: $300M in dedicated innovation funding via "Thailand 4.0"

• Both: Creating AI industrial zones with meaningful tax incentives

We don't need more roadmaps. We need execution on:

1. National AI strategy with real funding

2. Complete education reform with AI literacy at all levels

3. Public-private partnerships that actually produce something

4. Computing infrastructure that makes development possible

Every day we spend "thinking" rather than building pushes us closer to permanent second-tier status – the "sari-sari store" of the regional economy while our neighbors build digital empires.

The Choice: Roadmaps or Results

The Philippines stands at a pivotal moment in its technological evolution. The gap between our potential and our reality grows with each passing day. While our neighbors execute, we deliberate. While they build, we plan.

This isn't about criticizing government initiatives for the sake of criticism. It's about recognizing the urgency of our situation. The global AI race waits for no nation, and the economic consequences of falling behind are already becoming apparent.

We have all the ingredients for success: brilliant Filipino engineers, entrepreneurs with global vision, and a young, adaptable population. What we lack is the infrastructure and framework to unleash them.

The path forward is clear: we must transform our approach from planning to building. We need compute resources accessible to our developers. We need regulatory sandboxes that encourage experimentation. We need education systems that teach AI literacy from elementary school through university.

Most importantly, we need to bring the builders into the room where decisions are made—not as token consultants, but as central architects of our national strategy.

The question isn't whether the Philippines can compete in the global AI landscape. The question is whether we'll choose to.

The roadmaps already exist. What we need now are results.

I was invited to speak at a panel on Co-creating with Machines. We were asked 3 questions on co-creating with AI around these themes: prompting, parenting, and the progress of the development of AI. I can expound my answers in the next post, but I loved the interactions, the debate, and the insights gained from that talk.

For now, I am pumped up to write something related to the song I’ve just listened to from Mr. Worldwide — Fireball — “I saw, I came, I conquered“.

I believe this is what tech-savvy managers are feeling about AI. Admit it: We’re running around like headless chickens, trying to wrap our heads around this emerging tech and urging our team to upskill.

EVERYONE, at this point, knows ChatGPT.

But let’s think about that for a little bit.

When you give instructions to your team like how you would prompt ChatGPT, it is a SIGNAL -- you expect humans to perform like AI: fast, tireless, knowledgeable, responsive, etc.

Perhaps that should be EXACTLY the aspiration we as humans need in a time where MEDIOCRITY is no longer an option.

The expectations may be unrealistic, but it's now crucial that we:
- Question our comfort zones (AI doesn't have it)
- Reduce procrastination (AI doesn't struggle)
- Be more aware of quality & precision (AI relies on its training only)
- Embrace lifelong learning (AI relies on its training only)

It's now more important than ever that we also evolve along with this emerging tech and focus on the strengths of being "human": critical thinking, cultural awareness, and emotional intelligence (through mentoring/training).

Then, if and when we achieve that superhuman version of us, imagine complementing artificial intelligence with that? Oh, the greatness humanity can achieve.

The choice is yours: Fire them, or fire them up.

Why is there not one recognizable name of a woman we admire?

Because all the names of the greatest women converge under just one: DAUGHTER.

We are the daughters who waited at home with our mothers for our fathers to return from wars. We learned to mend, sew, till, plant, create, teach, advocate, love.

We are the daughters standing on the shoulders of women who raised their hands in the boardroom full of men to represent us.

We are the daughters with voices drowned out by expectations of being feminine, graceful, beautiful, motherly, loving, kind, understanding, quiet, submissive, supportive, silent.

We are the daughters expected to claim our pronouns, she/her, which we know we owned since birth.

Yet, inside of us, are raging flares of wicked thoughts.. of world domination.. of dreams to go beyond gender and seek representation and recognition.

She is vocal.

She is represented.

She is at peace.

She is whatever you see her to be.

She is a daughter.

Inspired by Ms. Le-an's recent post on tiered pricing, I will add my piece and share about DashoContent's journey on pricing strategy.

For two years, we tried piecemeal content orders at DashoContent. The vision was to create a Grab-like experience in ordering content - order a piece + get content done. That's it.

But as we launched and promoted it, we realized we have been delivering a full-service offering instead -- account management, content strategies, planning, and proposals, just to be able to produce piecemeal two pieces of blog posts for just one customer.

Not even chatgpt can do that with one prompt.

Two months ago, we tested offering UNLIMITED content at x15 the price of one content piece. Plans start at $700, unlimited production, cancel anytime. It may seem expensive initially, but the customer NOW has access to a talent network of creatives and writers and can expect consistent and RELIABLE content production. No more headaches from hiring and no more content backlogs. There is so much value in one subscription!

With the new model, we can now give customers more value with thoughtfully crafted content pieces. This model led us to close higher quality customers and get matched with higher quality partners. With this, we reduced churn and just reached breakeven this month. This change truly aligns with our core value of CARING for customers. The model works! Ask our current customers, which include Series A onwards tech startups and high-end real estate companies.

We are still testing the price point and delivery and optimizing our internal team. Later, we plan to offer the more complex content types (design, video, etc). On scalability, we are also simplifying what is left of the platform to streamline orders and automate the sourcing with the right partners for each unlimited order.

But on to what makes DashoContent unique -- our AI-powered community and platform. We have a network of 800+ creatives and writers -- rigorously vetted before matching, all awaiting gigs and eager to learn how AI can augment them.

At the end of it, whether AI or humans, marketing leaders and founders only want the result -- CONTENT that WORKS. And the only way to know if something works is to CREATE it.

I’ve seen many leaders create content on formats like these. Some do so once in a while; others do so every day. Most use ghostwriters, copyeditors, content platforms (hello, DashoContent), or PR people. Nothing wrong with that.

When I get curious about what they do and visit their profiles, I still need to learn what they are all about and what their company does.

And these days, who has time to uncover all of that?

Sometimes, I wish for people to come with either a user’s manual or a TLDR version distilled in keywords or hashtags for those with a low attention span.

What I would appreciate is one thoughtful essay about what they REALLY think.

That is the missing narrative.

I don’t want a rehashed amalgamation of other people’s content. I want to see YOUR originals, not derivatives. Is that too much to ask for?

In what format should you write a piece that consolidates your thoughts? How do you create one core message based on these diverging formats? How do you distill it into one single message?

The answer to a missing narrative is an essay. Or call it a blog post or in-depth article.

Why an essay? It’s long enough to add coherence and deep dive into a topic. It’s structured enough to add your points and arguments. It’s evergreen and sufficient to establish you as the authority.

I wish leaders wrote more thoughtful content themselves.

Gone are the days when leaders write their essays.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, last wrote about privacy and social networking. It’s clear and well-structured, showing his approach to a topic that has plagued Facebook for years.

Mark Benioff, co-founder of Salesforce, wrote about new capitalism. It’s convincing and provides a good argument for the flaws of current capitalism.

The only one worth following these days is Paul Graham of Y Combinator. He is known to write long essays about complex topics and simplify them with the goal of challenging conventional thinking.

With essays, these leaders were able to converse better. Through other types of content, they can add context.

But as you can see, you have to start with the narrative. As Ted Lasso said, “Brevity is nice, but sometimes clarity is the true soul of wit. “

To write is to think. Consolidate your thoughts, show me conviction, and give me clarity.

You must feel tortured right now…

The world is just too fast-paced. Attention spans are waning. And AI is already catching up and coming for our jobs.

What sets us apart?

While machines learn and automate with impressive speed, our unique human quality of conscientiousness will NEED to shine brightest.

How?

Don’t just monitor Kanban boards and wait for the next assignments.

Don’t just tick boxes and follow checklists.

Don’t just follow gurus and think you’re free just because you read a self-help book.

Think. Then, care.

Infuse your work with empathy and a deep sense of responsibility.

Aside from simply caring about the impact on the bottom line,

…on branding…

…on KPIs…

…on ROI…

.. Imagine applying your skills with a constant awareness of the societal impact, environmental concerns, and the well-being of others. That's the future gold standard, the difference between simply "doing" and truly making a difference.

Yes, right now, generative AI might seem to have the upper hand in specific tasks. But remember, companies aren't simply looking for efficient robots; they crave humans who genuinely care. They yearn for individuals who bring passion, purpose, and ethical judgment to the table.

So, dear humans of the future, cultivate your conscientiousness.

Let it guide your decisions, inspire your creativity, and shape a future where technology serves humanity.

Remember, the world needs your heart, your mind, and your unwavering conscience.

1/ The recent layoffs in tech abroad have targeted those who are either too expensive, underperforming, lacking leadership skills, or missing domain expertise.

2/ Foreign companies are looking to the Philippines and other countries for CHEAP talent. They are looking for people who can spend time googling, chasing bugs, and hacking away at their laptops...

3/ For the PH, this results in local investments going towards devshops with access to thousands of developers, coders, frontend experts who CAN code but lack real-world expertise beyond Zoom calls and Slack.

4/ Stanford currently has 865 undergrads majoring in COMSCI and only 16 in Civil Engineering.

But the world is changing. Skills that can be automated or augmented with AI are now at risk.

With AI, anyone with a laptop can now become a coder.

My suggestion to our dear #GenZs and early career professionals: Major in a specific industry and minor in Computer Science.

Learn how to survey land. Learn how to build a farm. Learn how to build infrastructures. Learn how to sell. Learn how to create stories. Learn how to cook. Learn how to really teach people. Learn how make art. Learn to tailor. Learn how to heal people. Learn how to deal with people.

And then add TECH to augment and supercharge a career.

That's the way to truly add value with tech.
