Relationships DON'T have LIFETIME warranties. There is no such thing as "Buy It For Life" when it comes to people around you.
In the age of consumerism, capitalism, and planned obsolescence (I'm looking at you, Apple), it's no wonder that relationships also have expiration dates.
Gone are the days when we look at couples or friendships and wish we were them - growing old, being raisins together until they die. More and more, we are seeing the transiency of things and people around us.
Not that it's bad. We have evolved our lifestyles and lovestyles (polyamory? anyone?) so that it fits our modern living. This is nothing new. In fact, it is normal. Like how nature designed humans to be.
Just like relationships, startups and businesses also face the same dilemma: There is also no such thing as "Buy It For Life" when it comes to tech.
I remember my son at 5 y.o. loving an app so much because it has adorable cats and bought premium in-game items. And now at 15 y.o., only the memory of that app is left behind.
What happens to our investment in memories (and in-game items) on apps and technologies that will soon be gone and forgotten and archived/deleted from cloud servers?
But similar to people, startups evolve. And our goal is to make sure we find our purpose and fulfill our opportunity to serve in the moment we are around and able to do so.
And for those who can offer the promise of a lifetime, they are rare and worth the extra money (attention, love, commitment) that you will spend.
True love doesn't last forever. But maybe your indestructible Nokia 3310 would.
