I just finished watching School of Rock and chatting with our CTO about product priorities. The quiet of this Saturday afternoon just inspired me to write this.
Playing the "LONG GAME" ❤️
After years of doing business and seeing shifting mindsets, one thing is constant: The expectation for INSTANT results.
It blows my mind how everyone wants INSTANT results for things that they venture into.
Examples:
- Content creators and coaches that want to be "experts" without their first projects yet.
- Influencers that want to immediately trend.
- Startup businesses that put a tedious amount of time to get a perfect landing page.
- Company projects that want to see ROI on its first month
- DAOs and NFT projects that want to be top-ranked on the first launch.
But in the end, they up hurting their initiatives due to one thing:
THE LACK OF FUNDAMENTALS. I am not going to list it one by one because Google has instant results for this.
The point is: There is no shortcut to fundamentals and the BASICS take time to build.
Hack it. Put a bandaid solution. Get an MVP version. But at some point, you're going to have to get it right and get it done.
If x then y else z. Then iterate and improve on your fundamentals. But don't ever miss putting it in place or expect instant results.
It is hard for something so simple as the basics. And trust me, I've been on different sides of the table. So that's why I prefer the long game.
Call it a survival mindset but here's the reason why: I want things to compound. Yes, like compounding in finance. Whether it's with family, colleagues, business partners, communities, and teammates, compounding can happen.
I don't want to build and call it a day. I don't want to invest and then expect a "get rich quick" path. I want my efforts reinvested for the next thing that I will pursue.
As per School of Rock's ending song - It's a long way to the top. If you wanna rock n' roll. And if you wanna do business.
